Jesus is Hope – Day 4

Jesus is Hope – Day 4

Hope as an Unshakeable Anchor

(adapted from 12/3/23 sermon, “Jesus is Hope”)

This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.

Hebrews 6:19 (NLT)

Hope, as described in Hebrews, is not a fragile wish but a robust and trustworthy anchor for our souls. The imagery evokes a sense of security amidst life’s storms, pointing to the unchanging nature of God’s promises. Jesus, our eternal High Priest, serves as the anchor point that grounds us in the certainty of God’s faithfulness. This hope is not only a comfort in trials but also an assurance that transcends the uncertainties of the world, leading us into the very presence of God.

This hope is also a powerful motivation for us to live in obedience and gratitude to God, who has given us such a great salvation. We are not only saved from the wrath of God, but also saved for the glory of God. We are called to be his witnesses, his ambassadors, his co-workers in his kingdom. We are not to be passive or complacent, but active and diligent in doing good works that reflect his character and his love. We are to be faithful stewards of the gifts and talents he has entrusted to us, using them for his purposes and his glory. We are to be holy as he is holy, and to love as he loves. This hope inspires us to live for him, not for ourselves, and to seek his will, not our own. This hope is the anchor of our souls, and the source of our joy.

  1. In what ways has hope served as an anchor in your life during challenging times?
  2. How does the imagery of an anchor provide comfort and assurance in the face of uncertainty?
  3. Consider the role of Jesus as our eternal High Priest. How does this impact your understanding of hope?

Reflect on a recent challenge or uncertainty in your life. Consider how hope in Jesus provided stability and strength. Determine to anchor your soul in Jesus during future uncertainties.

Encourage someone going through a difficult season by sharing your experience of how hope in Jesus anchored you during tough times.

Lord, thank You for being our unshakeable anchor. Help us to trust in Your promises and find security in the hope that Jesus provides. May our lives be a testament to the stability found in You. Amen.
