From Joash to Jesus – Day 4

Persevering in Faith

“Then the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood before the people and said, ‘This is what God says: Why do you disobey the Lord’s commands and keep yourselves from prospering? You have abandoned the Lord, and now he has abandoned you!'”

2 Chronicles 24:20

REFLECTION:

Joash’s tragic turn away from God serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of disobedience and spiritual drift. He rejected the warnings of the prophets, resulting in the withdrawal of God’s presence. This narrative reminds us of the importance of persevering in our faith journey, not allowing our hearts to become hardened through disobedience but instead, continually seeking God.

Consider moments in your life when you may have drifted away from God or faced disobedience. Reflect on how those instances impacted your spiritual journey. Joash’s story serves as a stark reminder that we must remain obedient and open to God’s presence.

PERSONAL REFLECTION QUESTIONS:

  1. Are there areas in your life where you’ve been disobedient or have allowed your heart to harden toward God?
  2. What steps can you take to ensure you remain obedient and open to God’s presence, avoiding spiritual drift?

APPLICATION:

Examine your life for areas of disobedience, and take concrete steps to align your actions with God’s commands. Seek forgiveness and restoration in those areas. Remember that a humble heart that seeks God’s presence is less likely to harden.

LOVE IN ACTION:

Pray for individuals in your life who may be drifting away from God or struggling with disobedience. Reach out to them in love, offering support, encouragement, and prayer. Your care can be a catalyst for their return to faith.

PRAYER:

Lord, forgive me for any areas of disobedience or hardness of heart. Help me remain faithful and obedient, seeking Your presence always. Guide me in my interactions with others who may be struggling in their faith. Amen.
